About Illuminate

Back and bigger than ever in September 2023, Illuminate Wollondilly enters its seventh year!  The festival is set to delight once again, with exciting activities for the whole family and even more awe-inspiring lighting projections. Crowd favourites will return again in 2023 including LED dancers, gorgeous stilt walking street performers, fire breather, Illuminate carnival and more!

The Illuminate Festival will continue expanded activities across Friday, Saturday & Sunday, including the Long Table Dinner, South 32 Art & Light display in Picton Botanic Gardens, Saturday's Main Festival markets & entertainment and a Jazz & Swing Afternoon to round out an already amazing festival!

The Main Festival will once again see the town’s glowing buildings become the centrepiece of the festival with amazing artworks projected onto the Menangle street buildings, with the spectacular fireworks display over our historic town to conclude the night.

The Team

The Team

Wollondilly Shire Council, Southern Tablelands Arts and its innovative team behind Macarthur's most extraordinary illuminative creation, encourages spectators to immerse themselves in what has now become one of the most exciting annual experiences on the Wollondilly cultural calendar, designed to promote public awareness and appreciation of the regions established and emerging artists.

The festival's lead digital Artist – Khaled Sabsabi is a full-time professional artist who specialises in mixed media and site-specific installation presentations. His process and practice involves working across art mediums, geographical borders and cultures to create immersive and engaging art experiences.  He see’s art as an effective tool to communicate with people, through a familiar language. Sabsabi makes work that questions; rationales and complexities of nationhood, identity and change. His practice speaks to audiences in ways that enlighten our understanding of universal dynamics which is more complex and ultimately more unknowable than our own selves.

Along with Khaled is his team of digital professionals; Jerome Pearce and Andy Ko; Illuminate also welcomes Sydney artists Eddie Abd and Fadle El-Harris as they set to raise the bar yet again in 2023.
